Hackney service praised [return]
Hackney speech and language therapy service hailed as Bercow model

The renowned Hackney speech and language therapy team gets a special mention in an article in the Independent, published ahead of the Bercow report due out next week.
The newspaper interviews John Bercow MP who is leading the government-commissioned review of services for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs in England. As part of his research the MP visited Tyssen Primary School in Hackney, East London, one of the schools to benefit from the turnaround in speech and language therapy services in the borough. Children are now seen within five weeks of referral, drop-in sessions are offered and complaints have fallen sharply. Joint working between health and education services at strategic and operational level and an acceptance that children’s communication development is everyone’s responsibility are key features of the Hackney model that John Bercow wants to see adopted more widely.
