'Hello' National Year of Communication [return]
House of Commons reception launches plan to make speech, language and communication a priority

The National Year of Communication in 2011 in England is to be called 'Hello'.

The year is being run by The Communication Trust, a coalition of 39 voluntary and community organisations, backed by the Communication Champion Jean Gross. Its development can be traced back several years to the original I CAN 'Make Chatter Matter' campaign and the Bercow review of 2008. It aims to make speech, language and communication a priority in homes and schools across England.

Speech & Language Therapy in Practice editor Avril Nicoll attended the reception at the House of Commons on 18th October to launch the year. There is more information on her blog and in the forthcoming Winter 10 issue of Speech & Language Therapy in Practice.
